Standard Format Guidelines

Follow These Guidelines

Please be aware that publishers and agents ask for these standard format guidelines. I as the Editor and Proofreader ask for these guidelines because as an author I follow the same guidelines. Below is a set of instructions to follow:-

  • Use an 1 inch on all sides:-top, left-side, right-side and bottom of the page
  • Use a title page or follow the example below.
  • Don't number the title page. Begin numbering from the second page.
  • Use a header on each page, including your name, title of your novel in all caps and the page number.
  • Start a new chapter on its own page, one-third of the way down the page.
  • The chapter number and chapter title should be in all caps, separated by two hyphens: CHAPTER 1--THE BODY
  • Begin the body of the chapter four to six lines below the chapter title.
  • Indent five spaces for each new paragraph.
  • Double-space the entire text
  • Italics the word and bold the words
  • Use a standard font - Times New Roman, Arial, or Courier, and 12-point type size.

Please note:- most publishers and agents have their own guidelines on their websites and you need to follow those instructions to the Tee and dot the i and full stops.
